This magnificent 113-year-old landmark, the cornerstone of the Mount Vernon Township High School for over 110 years, is soon to be just more Jefferson County history.  Only pictures like this will remain as evidence of how grand (or gaudy, depending on your point of view) area architecture was before the modern era.  Thanks to a few local historians, many pictures remain as testaments to the fantastic progress area residents made in the first 100 years from the first settlers' meager beginnings.

As the museum committee is assembling the new 3-year display depicting the history of local food, clothing, and shelter - the basics of life, we find a shortage of pictures of farmhouses that represented shelter for most of the county 100 years ago.  Again, if you have pictures you would like to share, please let us know.
