Elizabeth Keckley, an African-American woman, was not only Mary Todd Lincoln’s seamstress but also her friend and confidante, both during and after Abraham Lincoln’s presidency. Though previously a little-known figure, Keckley and her role in the Lincoln family’s life has gained public recognition in recent years because of her prominence in the movie Lincoln (2012) and the Journey II exhibition at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield.
Kathryn Harris, a regional historian, and retired library services director at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, will portray Elizabeth Keckley and tell her life story.
